Moving Rolls – 2024 – installation of various crumpled and coated paper rolls, mix media – variable dimensions
The installation Rolls of Life celebrates the founding and eternal role of language and the transition from orality to written traces. Whether the rolls are empty, impregnated or filled with words and images, the installation has a triple meaning: it expresses the relationship to time; it metaphorically represents the variety of human trajectories within a permanence of form; and it refers to the sacredness of humans, in connection with the ancient prayer rolls.
The Pressed Color Monotypes start with a more or less figurative representation, from which I anticipate and play with the random nature of the action of the roller of the engraving press on very diluted oil colors on the plate, leaving room for a double diversion. Improper use of a tool since the roller serves to overflow the colors of the plate rather than to engrave; inversion of gravity: when the overflow would suggest colors flowing vertically towards the ground, it comes from the horizontal action of the press. Pressed Color Monotypes express for me the power of life in a particular way: each print is unique, giving rise to an iterative process where one print influences and responds to the other - including through its ghosts.
Out of the Box intends to revive the old line/color debate, this time between the line of the plate frame, which limits and maintains the composition, and the colors inside and at the edge, which intermingle, overflow and bring movement. The paradigm becomes that of the framework (here)/freedom (outside-elsewhere), which I see as the source of a maieutics of displacement: seeking fulfillment elsewhere, beyond what keeps us here.
With Poiesis, I rely on subjective invocations that I create to question our consciousness in movement and displacement.
